Description:

We’re Mid and North East Essex Mind, the mental health charity. We believe no one should have to face a mental health problem alone. That’s why we are here for you. Whether you’re stressed, depressed or in crisis, we’ll listen, give you support and advice and we’ll push for a better deal and respect for everyone experiencing a mental health problem.

We work with children from the age of 5 and adults of all ages. Some people use our services for only a little while and others might need help for longer.

Mid and North East Essex Mind (Registered Charity Number 1064309) are a local, independent charity connected to the national charity Mind. There are 130 local Minds across England and Wales. We all have to raise our own money to run our services so we each have our own board of trustees who are responsible for how we are run. Our work takes place across the Braintree, Chelmsford, Colchester, Maldon and Tendring districts. Because we are local, we understand our community, therefore our services fit what people need most.

Nationally, Mind campaigns to improve services and raises awareness. We work in partnership with them and other local Minds to make sure everyone gets the help they need across England and Wales.

Description:

Our vision is for a world with good mental health for all. Our mission is to help people understand, protect and sustain their mental health. Prevention is at the heart of what we do, because the best way to deal with a crisis is to prevent it from happening in the first place. We take a public mental health approach to prevention, finding solutions for individuals, those at risk and for society, in order to improve everyone’s mental wellbeing.

Prevention of poor mental health is not only possible, but urgently needed. Our strategy affirms our commitment to making prevention happen, so that people across the UK can live mentally healthier lives.

The unacceptably high level of mental ill-health is the public health challenge of our time.
We know the scale of the problem. In the UK, one in six adults and one in eight 5-19 year-olds meet the criteria for a common mental health problem every week. Suicide is the leading killer of men and women between the ages of 15-35. Fewer than one in eight adults say they are thriving. Mental health problems are the biggest contributor to ill-health.

Seventy years ago, our founder Derek Richter talked about the impact of issues like trauma, neglect and poverty on our mental health. Evidence over the last 30 years has shed more light on the causes of mental ill-health, illuminating how genetic, social, economic, family and emotional factors make us more or less likely to develop a mental health problem. Together, these factors interact and influence each other. As we have understood how many of us experience mental health problems, the focus has been on finding and developing effective treatments. This is vitally important.

Description:

We won’t give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets support and respect.

We provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. We campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding.

Local Minds support people in communities across England and Wales. Their range of services include supported housing, crisis helplines, drop-in centres, employment and training schemes, counselling and befriending. Because of Mind, millions more people have access to advice and support thanks to our information and services nationally and locally, in England and Wales. We’re building on change, but we know there is much more to do.

Over more than 60 years Mind has worked to improve the lives of all people with experience of mental health problems. Through public campaigns, government lobbying and more than 1,000 services our local Minds have delivered in communities across England and Wales, we have touched millions of lives. Our policy work influences government so that people with mental health problems can get the support they need and the respect they deserve.

Every year, one in four of us will experience a mental health problem. But hundreds of thousands of people are still struggling. We believe no one should have to face a mental health problem alone. We’ll listen, give you support and advice, and fight your corner.
