Why have live-in care?
Live-in care gives you an alternative to a residential or nursing home. Your carer lives with you, in your home, giving round-the-clock support. This means that you can stay in your own home, follow your own routines, keep your garden and pets, keep up with your friends and neighbours and live your life just as you want – for a cost equivalent to, or lower than, many residential homes. It saves you from being committed to an institutional life.
Live-in care can be cheaper than most good care homes
Consider the service you get at home with a live-in carer. How much would you pay to get the same, one-to-one service elsewhere? The weekly cost of live-in care is in the region of £900 to £1,300. The savings are greatly increased when a couple both need care. They can share one live-in carer, rather than paying two care home fees. It is also substantially cheaper than having three carers working in eight-hour shifts.
Recent research proves that people who have live-in care are less likely to fall, and far less likely to have a hip fracture than people in residential and nursing homes. But it’s not just physical health. Our research shows that people with live-in care are happier with ‘softer’ positive outcomes too. They enjoy their home-cooked meals and the sense of freedom and independence that’s maintained.
Maintain your independence
Live-in care lets you lead the life you want to lead. You eat what you want, go out where and when you want, see your friends when you want, get up and go to bed when you want.
The John Ford Group specialises in the adaptation of houses to make living at home easier for the frail, elderly and those with disabilities – whether it’s a simple alteration or a large-scale complex building conversion, a rapid response self-contained interior pod or an entire garden annexe. Our team react quickly to all enquiries and ‘home from hospital’ referrals, and our specialist fitters work speedily but safely, with minimal disruption to your home and within budget. And always with quality in mind.
All large-scale house extensions, conversions and equipment installations are usually instructed by specialist architects or solicitors and coordinated by our professional construction managers. And we have been vetted and approved by Trading Standards and are regulated by the Chartered Institute of Building so you can buy with confidence. We leave the general building to others, choosing instead to focus on adapting homes, and to that end, we employ a workforce of managers, skilled tradesmen and fitters working across East Anglia as we aim to be the first-choice provider of specialist home adaptations and equipment installations.
Our ethos is based on transparency, honesty and trust and we work with occupational therapists (OTs) to ensure all adaptations are made for the greatest benefit and that no change is made unnecessarily. That is why we are often referred by occupational therapists, case managers, care companies, solicitors and other allied care industry professionals.
But most of our referrals come from recommendations by our customers, for which we are immensely thankful.
By far the most common adaptation involves replacing a bath with a level-access shower to facilitate washing. However many other adaptations can improve access around the home, making daily living easier for all.
The addition of our Rapid Response service means that we can get you home from the hospital as soon as possible and at the same time help the NHS by freeing up a vital bed for someone else.
Our research involves a variety of different tasks designed to test different aspects of human psychology (e.g., memory, decision making, communication, etc.) that are usually administered over a computer. You won't have to do much with the computer itself--think of it more like a television that presents information to you. In general, the studies will usually present some information to remember--words, letters, pictures, and so on. The studies usually take about 1-2 hours, depending on the study. At the end of the study, you will be debriefed about its purpose and have the opportunity to ask questions as well. You will also be compensated for your time; the specific rates may vary but often are £6 per hour.
The research is being completed in conjunction with Christie's Care, Age Concern Colchester and Essex University Pyschology Department
