The Advice service received over 40 additional enquiries relating to the impact of Covid-19 in the 5 weeks from 23 March this year. Our trained Advisers, working from home, were able to assist people living in Colchester and North East Essex to access basic essentials including food and deliveries of medications through this time as well as help with issues relating to social care. The success of our response through this time has led to the development of a new community service designed to help people with needs identified through Covid-19 and access to care and home help services.
Alongside this work our Advisers have continued to assist vulnerable members of the later years community with vital assistance relating to benefits and pension entitlements to assist them meet additional needs as a result of illness, disability or income deprivation and advice relating to housing or care options, working hard to provide support during a period of disruption and change. We have redeployed our service towards telephone and email advice with our advisers working from home to ensure that vulnerable people maintain access to our service.
Welfare and Advice Manager Martin Jones outlined, ‘Whilst members of the team have themselves been directly affected by the impact of Covid-19 our service remains open and ready to help members of the community through this difficult time’.
